What is a hadith?

A hadith is what is reported from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ of his sayings, actions, approvals and descriptions. Together with the Quran, the Sunnah is a source of Islamic guidance.

• Saying: words he spoke.
• Action: how he prayed, fasted and dealt with people.
• Approval (taqrir): something done in his presence that he did not object to.
• Description: his character and appearance.
